CyberPrism Conducts Cyber Security Survey of Cruise Ship to Promote Uninterrupted Operation, and Safeguard Passengers and Crew

The Challenge

Cruise Ships represent an attractive target for cyber criminals. The presence of a large number of passengers in a contained space with complex IT and OT systems in operation increases risk levels and the attack surface of a cruise ship is more extensive than many people assume, with multiple opportunities to introduce malware through various pathways. The client needed a company which could combine a high level of maritime technical capability with broad experience in security to assess vulnerabilities and risks in one of their most important platforms.

Our Solution

We deployed an expert team in port and at sea to conduct a full cyber security survey. The resulting report became the basis of a cyber security remediation plan which still drives the implementation of security measures and controls. We were able to match technical and physical security risks to accurately assess the cyber-physical attack pathways to which the vessel could be subject.

Outcomes

Our report has driven targeted, cost-effective measure which have significantly enhanced vessel security whilst avoiding nugatory spend. Compliance with International Maritime Organisation guidance and US Coastguard requirements was enhanced, allowing continued, seamless operation.
